Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Smart Technologies LLC d.o.o. ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use the Shortilla mobile application (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

We collect only the data necessary to operate the App. We do not track users across apps or websites, and we do not use data for advertising purposes.

  • Email Address (Contact Info) — collected solely for account sign-in and authentication. It is never shared with third parties for advertising or cross-app tracking.
  • User ID (Identifiers) — an internal identifier used to associate your account with your data within our App only. It is not used to track you across other apps or websites.
  • Audio Data (User Content) — voice recordings you create inside the App, used solely to generate AI study materials.
  • Other User Content — text, PDFs, and any other materials you import, used solely for AI processing within the App.

We do not collect location data, browsing history, financial info, health data, contacts, or any data for advertising or tracking purposes.

Payment information

Subscription purchases are handled entirely by Apple's App Store (StoreKit). We do not receive or store your payment card details.

2. How We Use Your Information

All collected data is used exclusively for app functionality:

  • Email Address & User ID — create and manage your account, authenticate sessions, and maintain continuity across devices.
  • Audio Data — transcribe and process your recordings to generate AI-powered notes and summaries.
  • Other User Content — process uploaded text and PDFs through AI models to generate notes, flashcards, quizzes, and podcasts.

We do not sell your data or use it to serve third-party advertising.

3. How We Share Your Information

We share data only with the specific third parties listed below, and only as necessary to operate the App:

Apple & Google — Sign-In

When you sign in with Apple or Google, your authentication is handled directly by Apple Inc. and Google LLCrespectively. We receive only a unique user identifier and, if you permit it, your email address. We do not receive your password.

OpenAI — AI Processing

To generate notes, flashcards, quizzes, podcast summaries, and chat responses, we send your note content and chat messages to OpenAI, L.L.C. (San Francisco, CA) for processing. This includes text you paste or type, content extracted from uploaded PDFs, and messages you send in the chat feature. OpenAI processes this data solely to return AI-generated responses; it is not used to train OpenAI's models under our API agreement.

Other disclosures

  • Legal requirements — we may disclose information if required by law, regulation, or valid legal process.
  • Business transfers — in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
  • With your consent — for any other purpose with your explicit consent.

4. Data Retention

We retain your account data and uploaded content for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time from the App settings, which will permanently remove your personal data and content within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

5. Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (TLS), encrypted storage, and access controls to protect your information. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at the address below.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Request deletion of your data.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Receive a copy of your data in a portable format.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details in Section 10 below. We will respond within 30 days.

8. Third-Party Services

The App integrates with third-party services (Apple Sign-In, Google Sign-In, Supabase, Apple App Store). Your use of those services is governed by their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review them.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the new policy in the App or by email. Continued use of the App after changes become effective constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
